Comenius Partnerships, funded by the EU’s Lifelong Learning Programme, give schools in Europe the opportunity to build real and lasting links through collaborative projects.

Our previous project, ‘Making Friends through Physical Activity – Keeping Fit and Having Fun’ allowed teachers and pupils to travel to our partner schools in the Czech Republic and Italy. Filled with warmth, friendship and fun, these short, busy visits develop understanding and appreciation of each other’s way of life.  We had a very successful project meeting for all partner school teachers. In addition, pupils were involved when Polish, Czech and Italian pupils visited us at different times. Some of our Year 6 pupils travelled to our Italian partner school. Between meetings and visits, we worked on project activities. Pupils were directly involved in producing DVD presentations for each meeting, and assemblies and displays ensure the whole school hears about what we have been doing.

Comenius partnerships have become a familiar and exciting part of school life. Our current project ‘Creativity in a Digital World’, began in September 2011. With 8 schools taking part from the Czech Republic, Poland, Italy, Spain. Slovenia, Romania and Turkey, this is an exciting new venture. Focusing on the use of ICT, the project aims to share and learn the best ways to use multimedia within teaching – thinking about both teachers and children too. There is also an ‘entrepreneurial’ slant which gives pupils another opportunity to become involved in Comenius.
