St. Aubyn's School

Cross Country Success

In the last week of half term a large group of St. Aubyns pupils competed in the final race of the schools cross country league.  This was the best week for St. Aubyns because the Under 11 Boys team came joint first with Theydon Bois and the Under 11 Girls team finished fourth.

Ryley, 6WT, came first out of 73 runners and was announced as the overall individual winner after achieving 5th, 2nd, 1st and 1st in the 4 races. Oliver, 5ET, also did very well, finishing 6th in the last race and 8th overall.

Mr. Bayntun took most of the pupils who had been training so we were the only School to have B and C teams running in the Under 11 age group, whilst only 1 of the other 9 schools took a B team.

The event, organised by Woodford Green Athletics Club for local schools in the Epping Forest and Redbridge districts, is held over four weeks with points counting for both team and individual events in a league format. The first race was held at Ashton Playing Fields over a flat grassland course, but the remainder of the races were held on the tough undulating course at Claybury Park.

Woodford Green AC wish to thank all the schools for their support and participation and also for the supporters who turned out each week to give a great atmosphere at the event. They look forward to an even bigger event next year. Look at their club web site for the full results and also for details nearer the time for next year’s event.

Woodford Green AC offers training and coaching facilities to all schools. For the under 10s we have “Woodford Wasps” who meet on Saturday morning at Ashton Playing fields. For the senior schools, training and coaching is offered on Tuesday and Thursday evenings starting at 6:00 pm. Come to the club house and meet the coaches beforehand or introduce yourself to their Young Members secretary, Graham Foy.
