HAROLD COLLEY

1927 - 2011

With sadness I report the death of Harold Colley.  Harold was born in January 1927.  At St Aubyn’s he was a pupil from 1932 to 1940, an Assistant Master from 1951 to 1956, joint Head from 1956 to 1967 and Headmaster from 1967 to 1993, when he retired.  The Colley family – Harold’s father was Headmaster before him – were proprietors of St Aubyn’s since 1922.  In 1975 Harold decided to set up St Aubyn’s as a charitable trust.  This was a supreme act of generosity, literally giving the school away in order to secure its future.  It is thanks to Harold that St Aubyn’s is the thriving and established community it is today.  There will be a full appreciation in the next school magazine.
